Proposal:

Conservation and decarbonisation of the Palm House and Waterlily House to include: • Demolition of Boiler House 13 and its replacement with a new enclosure. • Fabric conservation and upgrades to include glass replacement, repair and repainting of iron structures, reintroduction and repair of openable vents, conservation and restoration of ground level fabric (including stone, paving and grilles), and removal of the access gantry and ladder system in the Palm House. • Decarbonisation works to include installation of water source heat pumps in the Palm House basement and associated infrastructure, installation of new pipework and replacement of existing pipework, installation of new radiators in the Palm House, installation of new building management systems. • Improved access to include alterations to the ground floor layout of the Palm House and the creation of a series of interpretive and sensory installations, the installation of a ground level platform lift leading to the Palm House basement, and upgrades to entrance doors to include the removal of lobbies. • Irrigation improvements including refurbishment of rainwater harvesting tanks and the introduction of automated irrigation systems. • Other associated works and general cleaning of the glasshouses.
